Because routers are often ugly plastic boxes with blinking lights, homeowners tend to hide them. They shove them behind the television, put them inside metal cabinets, or hide them in the basement next to the fuse box.

Wi-Fi signals are radio waves. They are easily absorbed by metal, water (fish tanks), and dense materials like concrete and brick. If you hide your router inside a media console, you are actively destroying your own internet speed.
